NACOGDOCHES - Lancaster High School guard Natashia Green announced her intentions to further her education and play basketball at Stephen F. Austin announced Ladyjack head basketball coach Lee Ann Riley Wednesday afternoon.
"We're really excited about the addition of Natashia to our program," said Riley. "She is a very competitive guard that can score, rebound and is a tremendous defender. Not only is Natashia competitive on the basketball court, she uses that same drive to excel in the classroom where she is ranked in the top 10 percent of her graduating class.
Green averaged 15.2 points and 3.4 steals per game for Lancaster head coach Nicole Palmer this past season. She was named team MVP, District 14-4A Offensive Player of the Year and earned All-4A Region II honors for her accolades on the court. Green's a very versatile athlete that dominates at both ends of the floor, earning the District 14-4A Defensive Player of the Year honor as a junior.
"Natashia had a great season this year," said Palmer. "She was a true leader on our team. Natashia will be a great athlete at SFA. She works hard and has the determination needed to succeed. Stephen F. Austin is a getting a true competitor."
Green also brings valuable club ball experience to Nacogdoches as a member of the Texas Dream Team, where she played for head coach Vance Hughes.
"Stephen F. Austin got the biggest steal in Texas with Natashia Green, who in my opinion is one of the best guards in the state," said Hughes. "Natashia is a do-everything guard. She can play either the one or the two; she can shoot from beyond the three-point line, but is also quick enough to drive past her defender. She is also a very good defensive player who competes with a lot of passion and energy. Natashia will be a great addition to the Ladyjacks."
As a senior Green earned all-tournament honors at the Lancaster, Texas A&M-Commerce and Dallas ISD tournaments as well as earning MVP honors at the 2005 Coca-Cola Tournament. After her sophomore season, Green competed at a WNBA Camp where she also earned MVP honors.
"I have worked hard over the past few years in hopes of landing a spot on a NCAA Division I team," said Green. "Coach Riley and her staff at SFA have given me that opportunity. I'll make them proud. The first time I entered Johnson Coliseum, I knew I was home. I said to myself, `You'll do great things here.'"
