
Ladyjacks Drop Two To Sam Houston

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team lost two games to the Lady Bearkats of Sam Houston State Saturday afternoon at Coy Simms Softball Complex. The Bearkats won the first game 8-1 and took the second game 10-2. These loses make the Ladyjacks 4-10 overall and 1-4 in Southland Conference play.
Sam Houston jumped out to an early lead in game one and never looked back. Elizabeth Gibson got the Bearkat scoring going with a solo homerun in the top of the first. In the second inning Gibson doubled off the right field wall, which scored two more runs for the Bearkats. That was part of a three run third inning for Sam Houston. The Bearkats added another run in the sixth to give them a 5-0 advantage.
SFA ended the shutout in the bottom of the sixth when Ragen Rutherford got an RBI base hit that scored Carrie Woydziak from third. Sam Houston added three more runs in the top of the seventh to put the game away.
The Ladyjacks' Traci Moore took the loss after going four innings and surrendering four runs.
The second game looked promising in the early going for the Ladyjacks. After giving up one run in the top of the first, the Ladyjacks scored two runs in the bottom of the frame to give them a 2-1 lead. SFA's Nicole Parrett got the scoring started with an RBI groundout that scored Kristina Swart. Rutherford came up next and hit a double to right-center that scored Woydziak from second.
The Bearkats not only responded to its deficit, but they blew the game wide open by scoring eight runs in the top of the third. This gave them a 9-1 advantage. Sam Houston tacked on one more run in the top of the fifth.
Nicole Carter took the loss for the Ladyjacks after going two-and-a-third innings. Carter gave up seven earned runs and struck out three batters.
SFA returns to action Sunday afternoon when they close out the three-game series against Sam Houston State at the Coy Simms Complex. The game is slated to begin at 1 p.
