NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team signed Francesca Tierno to a National Letter of Intent announced soccer coach Jaime Frias Wednesday afternoon. Tierno's addition brings the Ladyjacks' 2005 signing class to eight.
"Fran will come in and contribute to our team immediately," said Frias. "As a goalkeeper, she brings a great deal of quickness to the position. She has the potential to mature into one of the best keepers in our conference. Coach Angie Rigsby and the Texas Wave Soccer Club have always done an excellent job of producing quality goalkeepers."
Tierno is a two-time all-district goalkeeper for Kingwood High School. During her time at Kingwood, she guided her squad to two district and area championships. In 2004, Kingwood advanced to the state tournament where they finished third overall. Tierno brings five years of club experience to Nacogdoches and was a member of the 2002 Olympic Development Program's state pool.
