SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team lost to Texas State, 5-3, Sunday afternoon at Bobcat field. The loss drops SFA to 4-15 (.211) overall and 1-8 (.111) in Southland Conference play.
After falling behind by two runs, the Ladyjacks rallied in the top half of the fourth scoring three runs by utilizing some timely hitting and taking advantage of two Bobcat errors. With Carrie Woydziak at third with only one out, junior Lee Lara singled in the run to put the Ladyjacks on the board. After Lara advanced to second on a passed ball senior Ragen Rutherford sacrificed Lara to third. Junior Kristina Swart kept the bunt parade going when she laid down the fourth bunt of the inning to score Lara. The Ladyjacks tacked on a third and final run before the Bobcats could close out the inning.
But the lead didn't last long as Texas State recorded a three-run inning of their own in the bottom of the fifth. The Bobcat offense was aided by three Ladyjack errors in the inning, as Texas State held on for the victory.
Senior Traci Moore was hung with the loss after pitching two-and-two-third innings, while surrendering only one run. She struck two batters on the afternoon, but falls to 2-5 on the season.
The Ladyjacks return to action Tuesday when they travel to Denton, Texas, to take on North Texas. The game against the Mean Green is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
