NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack basketball team will begin the 2005-06 season Thursday night with an exhibition against Texas A&M-Commerce. The game against the Lions is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
The Lumberjacks, under the direction of sixth-year head coach Danny Kaspar, are looking to bounce back from last season's 12-15 record. SFA returns a pair of senior starters from last year in guard Marcus Clark and forward Anthony Paez. Sophomore forward Scott Weaver is the only other returning lettermen. Newcomers to the squad include transfers Gerald Fonzie, Chaz Dykes, Todd Henry, Antuane Miller and Keith Hardaway; true freshmen Josh Alexander, DeAndre Mays and Jerel Hastings; redshirt freshman Matt Kingsley and sophomore Will Johnson.
Texas A&M-Commerce is coming off a 28-5 finish last season. The Lions, who compete in the NCAA Division II Lone Star Conference, went 10-2 to win the south division. A&M-Commerce returns two starters from last year's squad.
The Lumberjacks will open the regular season on Nov. 19, when they travel to Tulsa, Okla. for a 4 p.m. game against the University of Tulsa.
