PLANO, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team placed 11 members on the 2005 All-Southland Conference teams announced league officials Tuesday morning. Junior Keldrick Holman was the `Jacks' lone first-team selection, while running back Louie Runnels, fullback Michael Motte, offensive lineman Jerry Little and linebacker Ryan Luedecke earned second-team consideration.
Holman had an outstanding junior campaign for the `Jacks finishing second on the team in tackles with 82. He led the team with 40 unassisted tackles and six interceptions and was second on the squad with nine pass break-ups. Holman led the league and finished fourth in the nation averaging .55 interceptions per game.
Luedecke finished off his SFA career with the best season of his career, leading the Southland Conference in tackles (113). After spending three seasons in the `Jacks' secondary, Luedecke moved to linebacker as a senior and responded by averaging 10.3 tackles per game. Luedecke led the team and finished fifth in the conference with 10.5 tackles for a loss in 2005. He also recorded 2.5 sacks and one interception, which he returned 32 yards for a touchdown to ice the victory over No. 21 UC Davis.
Runnels earned second-team honors after a season that saw him lead the team and finish fifth in the league with 779 (70.8 ypg) yards and seven touchdowns. Runnels also caught 14 passes for 133 yards and one score. Runnels seemed to get stronger as the season wore on posting a career-high 101-yard performance against UC Davis. He followed that up with 149 yards against No. 7 Texas State.
Motte has started every game for SFA over the past two seasons. He is a punishing blocker who led the way for teammate Louie Runnels who also earned all-conference honors in 2005. Despite not getting one carry, Motte was an effective receiver out of the backfield, catching 22 passes for 252 yards and tied for team-high honors with five receiving touchdowns.
Little wraps up his career with a second-team All-Southland Conference honor. Little was a mainstay on the `Jacks offensive line that produced a second-team all-conference running back and an honorable mention all-conference quarterback in Zeke Dixon. Little led the `Jacks' line which surrendered only 16 sacks, despite the fact that SFA threw the ball more than 43 times per contest.
Six Lumberjacks were also named to the 2005 honorable mention All-Southland Conference team. Those players include quarterback Zeke Dixon, wide receiver Carl Price, tight end Matt Bodley, kicker Cory Long, defensive back Krys Williams and punter Ryan Gooch.
