
Lumberjacks Win in Opener

TULSA, Okla. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack basketball team opened the 2005-06 season on Saturday with an 82-72 victory over Tulsa in the Donald W. Reynolds Center. SFA was led by junior forward Antuane Miller's 22 points and eight rebounds.
The Lumberjacks had no trouble finding the basket Saturday, as they connected on 49.1 percent of their shots. SFA shot 50 percent from the field in the first half when it took a 38-33 lead over the Golden Hurricane. The Lumberjacks beat Tulsa on the boards, 34-31, and turned the ball over just 10 times to Tulsa's 17.
Three SFA players joined Miller in double figures. Senior point guard Marcus Clark scored 16 points and hit three of his five attempts from 3-point range. Clark also grabbed eight rebounds, tying Miller for the team lead. Senior forward Anthony Paez scored 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Paez was a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line. Freshman Josh Alexander also broke into double figures with 10 points on 3-of-5 shooting.
Tulsa was led by forward Charles Ramsdell's 17 points and nine rebounds.
The Lumberjacks (1-0) will next take the floor Tuesday, when they host Texas Wesleyan in their home opener. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
