NACOGDOCHES - After clinching the Southland Conference title and finishing the season with a 27-2 overall record and a spotless 19-0 SLC mark, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks have been moved up into the eighth spot in the RichKern.com/AVCA Division I Regional Weekly Poll, announced Bill Kauffman of the AVCA Monday evening.
The Ladyjacks started off the season ranked No. 15 and slowly made their way up the rankings throughout the season. After stops at No. 11 and No. 10, SFA stayed put at No. 9 for two weeks before moving up to No. 8.
Ranked two spots ahead of the Ladyjacks is Wichita State, who is also ranked 23rd in the nation. SFA defeated Wichita State earlier this year, 3-2. SFA is also ranked ahead of members of the Big 12, such as Texas Tech, Baylor, Texas A&M, and Iowa State, who SFA swept earlier this year, 3-0, on the Cyclones' home court.
The Ladyjacks were the first undefeated team in the SLC since Texas State went 20-0 in 2000.
SFA is heading into the SLC championship tournament as the No. 1 seed and will be facing No. 8 Lamar in the first round on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. The tournament will be held at Texas Hall in Arlington.
