NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team has jumped up in the RichKern.com/AVCA Division I Regional Poll to the ninth spot, two places up from last week, announced Bill Kauffman of the AVCA on Tuesday morning.
After having remained in the number 10 spot for two straight weeks, the Ladyjacks fell to 11th place last week. The move up comes after a 3-1 win over Texas State and a 3-0 sweep of Texas Arlington last week. The victories were the 14th and 15th straight wins for the Ladyjacks, while giving them a 14-0 record in Southland Conference play and a 22-2 overall mark.
Polled right ahead of the Ladyjacks is Wichita State in the No. 7 spot while Iowa State is 8th. SFA has defeated each of these teams once this season. The Ladyjacks beat Wichita State in five and shut down Iowa State, 3-0, on their home court.
With five matches remaining in the regular season, the Ladyjacks are in the driver's seat in the SLC with Sam Houston State following closely behind with a 12-2 record. This weekend, both teams are on the road for back-to-back matches at Texas State and Texas-San Antonio.
The Ladyjacks will be stopping off in San Antonio on Friday night before heading to San Marcos on Saturday. Both matches are slated for a 7 p.m. start time.
