NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks swept the McNeese State Cowgirls in three straight games (30-24, 30-20, 30-22) to extend their win streak to eight matches and increase their Southland Conference record to 7-0 Saturday night at the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
The sweep was the fourth in the last five matches for an SFA team which stretched its overall record to 14-2.
This weekend was the first back for McNeese State, which had taken a couple of weeks off because of Hurricane Rita. The Cowgirls lost in three to Sam Houston State on Friday before coming to Nacogdoches.
"We expected more fight in McNeese," said SFA head coach Debbie Humphreys. "We saw it in spurts. Things would happen easy for us and then we'd have to wake up and get back in it," she said.
Three Ladyjacks had double-digit kills. Junior Laura Cramer led the pack with 14 while sophomore Traci Rohde had 11 and freshman Lauren Railey collected 12. Railey's 14 digs and Cramer's 15 digs gave them each a double-double on the night.
Rohde and Railey each collected a solo block to give Rohde a block total of four and Railey two.
Junior Stephanie Figgers collected 25 digs moving her into third place on the all-time digs list with a career total of 1,475. Sophomore JJ Jones had 43 assists, one more than her Friday night total to give her a season-high for a three-game match.
"We all hit successful," said Humphreys. "We got a little more even distribution which is what we've been working toward."
"We're doing good things," she continued. "We're on a mission and we have to continue to plug away."
After playing the last eight matches at home, the Ladyjacks will hit the road for a pair of SLC matches in northern Louisiana. On Friday, SFA will face Louisiana-Monroe at 5 p.m. before taking on Northwestern State on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
The Ladyjacks are 7-2 on the road this season.
