'Jacks Open Southland Conference Play Against Nicholls State

NACOGDOCHES - NICHOLLS STATE COMES TO NACOGDOCHES: The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team is going in search of its longest win streak of the season, as Nicholls State comes to town Saturday. The 'Jacks are 3-1 (.750) on the season and have won two straight after knocking off Southern Utah in Cedar City, 40-17, on Sept. 24. Nicholls State enters the weekend with a 1-2 (.333) overall record after falling to North Dakota State, 26-13, last week. The Colonels have had to cancel two games this season due to the hurricanes that have hit the region.
SFA vs. THE COLONELS: The Lumberjacks are 15-6 (.714) all-time against Nicholls State, and have won 11 of the last 13 meetings against the Colonels. One of the 'Jacks' two losses during that stretch came last season when Nicholls State recorded a 41-23 victory. The 'Jacks are 8-2 (.800) in their last 10 games against Nicholls State and have recorded a 9-2 (.818) all-time record against the Colonels in Nacogdoches. SFA will be looking to continue a streak of nine consecutive wins against the Colonels in Homer Bryce Stadium.
SLC OPENERS: Saturday's game against Nicholls State will be the Lumberjacks' Southland Conference season-opener. The 'Jacks are 12-6 (.667) all-time in SLC openers. The 'Jacks have won three of the their last four conference openers with the lone loss coming last season at Texas State, 17-14. Saturday's game will mark the first time since the 1999 season that SFA has opened SLC play in Homer Bryce Stadium. The 'Jacks are 5-1 (.833) all-time when opening league play in Nacogdoches. The team's lone home loss was a 31-15 setback to Southwest Texas in 1991.
THE OPPONENT: Nicholls State enters Saturday's game with a 1-2 (.333) overall record. The Colonels have been forced to cancel two games this season due to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. NSU brings a high-powered offense to Nacogdoches, averaging 32.7 points per game, but is coming off its poorest showing of the season scoring only 13 points at North Dakota State. Saturday's game also will be the Colonels' Southland Conerence Opener.
