NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks will be returning to the William R. Johnson to continue their Southland Conference slate Friday night against Lamar. SFA will be back on the court 24 hours later to face McNeese State on Saturday.
The Ladyjacks are entering the match on Friday with a 13-2 overall mark and a perfect 5-0 SLC record.
After being displaced by Hurricane Rita, the Lady Cardinals got back into action Tuesday night beating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 3-1. It was Lamar's first match after a two-week hiatus caused by the storm. Lamar is 1-2 in conference play with a 3-12 overall record.
"Lamar hasn't seen a lot of success," said head coach Debbie Humphreys. "They're undergoing that period of adjustment with a new coaching staff and new players. But they are extremely athletic and have two of the top middle blockers in the conference."
McNeese State will be facing Sam Houston State on Friday night before coming to Nacogdoches. The weekend matches will be their first since they were forced to evacuate Lake Charles. The Cowgirls are 8-4 overall and are the only SLC team besides SFA to carry an undefeated record at 3-0.
"With McNeese," said Humphreys, "we have more of an idea of what they're trying to do and we're more familiar with their players. We just need to execute."
"We just need to relax and have fun and the outcome will take care of itself," added Humphreys.
The Ladyjacks will be returning to the William R. Johnson Coliseum on Friday after having to play three matches in Shelton Gym due to evacuees being housed there.
"We're ready to get back and return to our home court," Humphreys said. "I'm just glad to have Shelton Gym so we could keep playing."
No matter if the Ladyjacks are playing at Shelton Gym or at Johnson Coliseum, the home court has been quite friendly to Ladyjack volleyball. Dating back to the 2004 season, the Ladyjacks are carrying a 12-match win streak on their home court. Six of those matches came this season.
