Lumberjacks Look to Get Back on Winning Track

NACOGDOCHES - LUMBERJACKS LOOK TO SILENCE LIONS' ROAR: The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team will look to rebound from a 52-24 loss at Sam Houston State, and put an end to its current two-game skid when it hosts Southeastern Louisiana Saturday at Homer Bryce Stadium. The Lions enter the game with a 2-4 (.333) overall record and are currently tied for fifth in the Southland Conference with a 1-2 (.333) record. The 'Jacks are 4-3 (.571) on the season and are also tied for fifth in the league with a 1-2 (.333) SLC record. Saturday is homecoming on the SFA campus. The game is slated to kick off at 2 p.m.
SFA vs. THE LIONS: The Lumberjacks are 4-3-1 (.563) all-time against Southeastern Louisiana, but Saturday's game will mark the first meeting between the two schools since the 1985 season. The Lions axed their football program before re-establishing it to varsity status during the 2003 season. The series began during the 1950 season and saw SFA win the first two meetings before dropping three straight to the Lions. The 'Jacks have not lost in the last three meetings, picking up victories in 1982 and 1984, and playing to a 21-21 tie during the 1984 season.
THE OPPONENT: The Southeastern Louisiana Lions entered the 2005 season under new head coach Dennis Roland. The Lions were one of the many schools affected by hurricanes that hit the region and were forced to cancel competitions. After canceling the season opener against Jacksonville, the Lions opened the season on Sept. 8 against Alcorn State with an impressive 48-21 victory. The Lions have struggled since the season-opening victory, dropping four of their last five games, but are coming off an impressive 37-17 victory over McNeese State.
