NACOGDOCHES - For the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks, Tuesday's match against Sam Houston State is just like any other match. Driving into Huntsville with the league-leading record of 9-0, the Ladyjacks will face the Bearkats who are not far behind with an 8-1 SLC record.
It was the Ladyjacks who served the Bearkats with their lone conference loss, 3-1, when the two teams battled it out for first place in the SLC. But the pressure was greater when both teams were sitting with a 4-0 record.
"For us, its just another match," said Ladyjack head coach Debbie Humphreys. "`Would we like to win? You bet.' But its just like every other match in conference."
The Ladyjacks have won 10 straight matches and extended their overall record to 17-2 (.895). The Bearkats are sitting with an 11-7 (.611) record for 2005. Both teams added wins to their conference records after they each took victories from Northwestern State and Louisiana-Monroe over the weekend.
Looking at Tuesday night's match, Humphreys believes the Ladyjacks have two options.
"We can come out of there with a two-match lead or tied with Sam Houston State. Those are our options," added Humphreys.
With Sam Houston State looking to hand the Ladyjacks a loss to even things up in the top spot, Humphreys believes the pressure to win is on the Bearkats.
"This is a must-win for Sam," said Humphreys. "We just need to relax and just play hard."
The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start at the Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum in Huntsville.
