Showdown with SLC Front-Runner

The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team has rebounded from its recent two game slide by rattling off two consecutive wins. After hosting Lamar in its first home game in over two weeks, the Ladyjacks hit the road again to face league-leading Texas-Arlington. The game against the Lady Mavs is slated to begin at 5:45 p.m., from Texas Hall on the UTA campus. The Ladyjacks enter the game with a 9-7 (.563) overall mark and 2.5 games back of UTA and Texas State for the top spot in the conference. The Lady Mavs are 11-6 (.647) overall and 6-0 in SLC action.
SFA vs. the Lady Mavs: The Ladyjacks have dominated the all-time series against Texas-Arlington, owning a 40-6 (.870) all-time record. But the Lady Mavs have had the upper hand in recent meetings. UTA has won the last two games and three of the last four contests between the two schools. The Lady Mavs have also won the last three meetings in Arlington. Last season, the two schools split the regular-season series with UTA recording a 69-61 win in the first round of the Southland Conference tournament.
Double-Double: Junior LaToya Mills placed the worst offensive game of her career between two of her better overall performances as a Ladyjack. Mills was held scoreless in the Ladyjacks win over Nicholls State, marking the first time she was held without scoring a point since donning the purple and white uniform. Prior to her scoreless game, she recorded a 19-point, 12-rebound outing at Sam Houston State. Saturday, Mills led SFA with 23 points and 10 rebounds. It was her fifth double-double of the season and the 18th of her career.
Kirby's Land: Junior Kirby Killingsworth just missed recording her first career double-double Saturday when she recorded 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the Ladyjacks 76-61 win over Lamar. The nine rebounds were a season-high for Killingsworth.
Attacking the Glass: After being outrebounded by Nicholls State Wednesday, the Ladyjacks responded by dominating Lamar on the glass. SFA outrebounded the Lady Cardinals, 44-31. That mark ties the Ladyjacks' season-high rebound margin which they set against Southern, outrebounding the Jaguars, 49-36.
Cup is Half Full: The Ladyjacks shot the ball well all night against Nicholls State. SFA was 15-for-25 (.600) in the first half and finished the game going 27-for-54 (.500) from the floor. It was the Ladyjacks second-best shooting performance of the season. SFA was 30-of-59 (.508) in their 74-68 win over Southern earlier this season. Senior Alex Bowman was one of three players to score in double figures against Nicholls State leading the way with 16 points.
Alex the Great: Senior Alex Bowman led a trio of Ladyjacks who scored double figures Wednesday night in the victory over Nicholls State. Bowman finished the night with 16 points on 7-of-9 (.778) shooting. She also grabbed two rebounds, recorded two steals, dished out an assist and blocked one shot. The 16-point outing ties a season-high she set against Arkansas State back in December. It is also the first time Bowman has reached double figures in points since the Ladyjacks victory over Arkansas State.
Great Brit Junior Britany Vinson scored 10 points on 4-of-10 shooting in the Ladyjacks victory over Lamar. It marks the second-straight game that Vinson has scored in double figures. Vinson is averaging 11 points per game during that stretch.
Up Next ... The Ladyjacks return to the William R. Johnson Coliseum on Thursday Feb. 3, when they host McNeese State. The game against the Cowgirls is slated to begin at 6 p.m. The Ladyjacks will then hit the road to Hammond, La., to play the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions. The game against the Lady Lions is slated to get under way at 3 p.m., from the University Center.
