PLANO, Texas -- Stephen F. Austin running back Derek Farmer was named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week this week after helping the Lumberjacks to a 24-17 overtime win over Northern Arizona. SFA was ranked 15th in the country heading into the game, while NAU was 13th following a week one loss to Arizona.
Farmer had 25 carries in the game for 144 yards and two scores, one a five-yard run to give SFA a 10-7 lead in the second quarter and the second came from 12-yards out in overtime. His last score proved to be the gamewinner as the Lumberjack defense held Northern Arizona on its possession in the extra frame.
The Texas A&M transfer currently leads the SLC and is ninth in the nation with a 138.0 yards per game rushing average after the first two games of 2004.
SFA defensive back Krys Williams was an honor roll mention defensively while Clay Gilbert earned Special Teams honor roll honors.
