NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team went through a crisp two hour practice Thursday night under ideal weather conditions. The team will work out in full pads for the first time this fall Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in the stadium. "I've been very pleased so far with the freshmen corners and receivers. By far, that group has been the biggest surprise to this point in camp. We've got some great athletes in this group and right now there are some guys in that group that are looking really good," said SFA head coach Mike Santiago. "The move of Joe Kutac to tight end has also been a good move. Joe has looked good working at tight end and I think that is a move that will work out to be a real good move." Friday night's practice will include some goal line work with full contact and tackling and other situational work. Santiago said that full contact will be limited throughout camp with the first taste coming Friday night. The team will then have the first of two-a-day practices with a Saturday morning workout scheduled to begin at 8;35 a.m. and an evening practice planned to begin at 7:30 p.m. in the stadium. During the Saturday night practice, the team will conduct the first scrimmage of fall camp. All practices are free and open to the public. NOTES -- • The Lumberjacks will wrap up the first week of fall camp with Media Day Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m. in the stadium. • Meet The Lumberjacks is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 24 in the UC Grand Ballroom at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available from any member of the Fredonia Rotary.
