
Soccer Places Five on Preseason All-SLC Team

PLANO, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team placed five athletes on the 2004 Preseason All-Southland Conference team announced league officials Thursday afternoon. Juniors Kendra Cannon and Kim Gray and sophomore Alicia Reese received first-team recognition, while senior Sophia Pantazis and junior Natascia Michalezki earned second-team honors. Gray was the Ladyjacks lone first-team All-SLC selection in 2003 after leading one of the most dominating defenses in school history. Gray was a two-time SLC Defensive Player of the Week selection last season who helped SFA record a school-record nine shutouts. Cannon returns as the school's all-time leading scorer. She earned second-team all-conference honors in 2003 after setting the SFA single-season record for points and goals. Reese made a huge impact in her rookie season finishing tied for second on the team in goals and assists. She wrapped up her freshman campaign by being named to the 2003 All-SLC second team. Pantazis battled through injuries during her junior season to finish among the league leaders in points and goals. She was a 2003 honorable mention All-SLC selection. Michalezki returns as one of the most dominant goalkeepers in the region. She is coming off a junior campaign that saw her finish among the league leaders in saves and shutouts in 2003. A four-time SLC Goalkeeper of the Week, Michalezki was key in the team's school-record nine shutouts last season. She returns for her junior year as the school's season and single-game leader in saves. She is currently second all-time in SFA history with 300 career saves. The Ladyjacks kick-off the 2004 season Friday Aug. 27, when they host Arkansas State. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., at the SFA Intramural Complex. -SFA-
