Ladyjack Thrower Selected as an Academic All-American

NACOGDOCHES - Stephen F. Austin State University graduate student-athlete Blake Gordon has been named to the 2004 Academic All-American Women's Track and Field team. Gordon, of Gladewater, Texas, is a third-team selection and has a 4.00 grade-point average in the university's Biology Graduate Program.
During Gordon's time at SFA the track program has had its most productive years both athletically and in the classroom. In 2003, the Ladyjacks won thier first Southland Conference Outdoor Championship, and they were runners-up during the both the indoor and outdoor seasons in 2004. During Phil Olson's regime as head track and field coach the programs have produced five Academic All-American selections.
The Academic All-America program honors male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level in their respective sports and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by the College Sports Information Directors of America -- a 2,000-person organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United State and Canada.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale, have reached sophomore athletic and academic status at the institution and be nominated by his or her sports information director.
