THIBODAUX, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack tennis team defeated Nicholls State, 6-1, Saturday afternoon in Thibodaux. The Ladyjacks improved to 6-9 (.400) on the season and 3-5 (.375) in Southland Conference play with the victory.
The Ladyjacks swept all three doubles matches but it wasn't easy. The tandem of junior Robin Houston and Laura Harrison defeated Nicholls State's Jennifer Rodriguez and Veronika Ramirez, 10-8, at No. 1 doubles, while junior Melissa Bass and freshman Lauren Nowicki recorded a 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles. Sophomore Megan Langston and rookie Kama Scott coasted to an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Lady Colonels tied the match at 1 when they recorded a victory at No. 1 singles, but Harrison got the Ladyjacks back on the right track when she recorded a 6-2, 6-3, win over the Lady Colonels' Ramirez at No. 2 singles. That would be all SFA would need as they rattled off four more singles wins to take the match.
The Ladyjacks return to action Sunday when they travel to Hammond, La., to take on Southeastern Louisiana. The match is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
