Ladyjacks Have Solid Outing at Rice

HOUSTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men and women's track and field team had another solid outing Saturday at the Rice/Runsport Twilight meet, as they prepare for the final stretch run before the Southland Conference Championships. Senior Blake Gordon led the way for SFA winning the shot put (45-2.25) and the discus (164-7). Gordon's mark in the discus was also an NCAA Regional qualifier.
Other Ladyjacks that had a strong meet were senior Vicky Jannise who set a new school-record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing third with a time of 11:12.20. Junior Ana Rodriguez finished fifth in the 1,500 meters with her time of 4:35.67. Freshman Ashley Monteau just missed taking home the 5,000-meter crown by three seconds, finishing second with a time of 17:16.00. Sophomore Stevina Wyatt won the 100-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line with a time of 14.32. Freshman Leah Matthews finished fourth in the race with a time of 14.63. Junior Teresa Murray finished in a tie for third in the high jump (5-6.00) just ahead of classmate Jocelyn Stevens who finished tied for fifth with a jump of 5-4.25. Senior Jennifer Schreiner recorded an NCAA Regional mark in the pole vault (12-3.50). Schreiner finished fifth overall. Freshman Markeisha Edwards finished second in the shot put with toss of 43-1.75.
The Lumberjacks dominated the 5,000-meter run as three SFA runners finished in the top five, led by sophomore Julian Acuna. Acuna was second with a time of 14:53.70. Sophomore Marc Farris finished third in the race (14:57.60), while teammate Cody Clark finished fifth with a time of 15:01.00. Freshman Reggie Lazenby finished third in the 110-meter hurdles, recording a time of 14.62. Senior Nathan Flores finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, recording a time of 9:13.10. Sophomore Michael Ludlow finished in a four-way tie for first in the pole vault, clearing a height of 15-7.00. Senior DeVaughn Rettig finished fourth in the long jump, recording a mark of 22-11.00. Sophomore Kenneth McKinley finished second in the shot put (48-7.25).
SFA returns to action Wednesday May 5th, when the travel to Huntsville, Texas, for the Sam Houston Invitational. It will be the final tune-up for SFA before they head to the SLC Outdoor Championships.
