NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Rains early this morning in the Nacogdoches area led coaches with the SFA softball team and from Southeastern Louisiana to postpone a scheduled 1:00 p.m. doubleheader between the teams to a triple header Sunday beginning at 11 a.m. However, the sun broke through, the field dried and the teams tried to play a doubleheader Saturday with the first game beginning at 5:00 p.m.
Southeastern Louisiana got a solo home run off the bat of catcher Karin Smith and RBIs from Becki DeLaGarza and Katie Szmerfalski to beat the 'Jacks 3-1 and knock SFA out of postseason consideration. Crissy Autry (12-16) went the distance in taking the loss allowing three earned runs on eight hits while striking out 12 SLU hitters. Summer Delanueville went the distance for the Lions scattering five hits while striking out six.
Jaime Brown went 2-3 with a run scored for SFA. Carrie Woydziak had the only RBI of the night for the 'Jacks, going 1-4.
Game two was suspended in the top of the fourth inning with SLU leading 4-1 due to lightning in the area. The game will resume Sunday morning at 11 a.m., with the third game of the series to follow.
