
Spring Game To Close Spring Practice Friday

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Spring football for 2004 comes to a close for the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks Friday night at 7:00 p.m. as the 'Jacks close spring camp with the annual Purple and White game in Homer Bryce Stadium.
The first of 15 permissible workouts during the spring practice season was held March 23 with 103 players on hand. The 'Jacks enter Friday night's final workout with 97 players set to take part. The teams will split along offensive and defensive sides of the ball with the offense wearing purple and defense wearing white.
The first units will square off to open the scrimmage followed by the second and third string units of each team. The scoring of the scrimmage will award points to the offense for any score and the defense for forcing stops and turnovers.
The offense will receive six points for touchdowns and three points for field goals with the defensive unit receiving one point for forcing a punt at any time, two points for a three-and-out series, and three points for a forced turnover. The defense will also receive one point for a sack.
There will be no live kicking during the scrimmage which will feature two 12-minute quarters in the first half with a possible adjustment to the timing in the second half depending on the number of plays run before halftime. The coaching staff looks to run between 100 and 120 plays Friday night.
Admission is free to the scrimmage which begins at 7:00 p.m. in the stadium.
