LAKE CHARLES, LA. -- The SFA Ladyjack softball team (19-24, 9-12) climbed back to within three games of the .500 mark in conference play Friday with a 1-0 win over McNeese State (15-33, 4-13) to take the three games series with the Cowgirls, two games to one.
SFA scored a run in the top of the first inning without benefit of a hit as McNeese State committed three errors in the frame to give up the only run of the game. Carrie Woydziak reached first base on an error to lead off the inning and was moved to second base on a sacrifice by Jaime Brown. Two errors then allowed Woydziak to move to third and eventually score.
The Ladyjacks were held to only two hits on the afternoon with Chelsea Lundberg and Carrie Woydziak each picking up one hit each.
Crissy Autry and Nicole Carter combined for the shutout with Autry starting and working five innings. She did not allow a run while giving up two hits and striking out seven. Carter came in and worked the sixth and seventh innings, allowing one hit.
SFA returns to action April 10 in a non-conference road game at Texas Southern.
