SFA Softball Wins Two

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin softball team recorded two blowout victories Saturday afternoon at the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Tournament. The Ladyjacks defeated tournament-host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 11-3, in the early game and came right back to shutout Bowling Green, 5-0, in the second game. The Ladyjacks are now 7-10 (.412) on the season.
Sophomore Lee Lara led SFA against the Islanders, going 4-for-4, with four RBIs and three runs scored. Classmate Crista Hargrove was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Junior Ragen Rutherford went 1-for-3 and drove in three runs. Freshman Chelsea Lundberg also drove in three runs on two hits.
Freshman Dawn Thomas recorded the victory going three and two-thirds innings, surrendering only three runs on five hits. Thomas struck out two batters.
The Ladyjacks recorded a shutout over Bowling Green by scoring five runs in the final two innings, including a four-run seventh. Lara was 3-for-4 at the plate, driving in two runs and scoring two. Hargrove plated two more runs on two hits. Rutherford picked up the other Ladyjack hit and scored a run.
Sophomore Nicole Carter earned the victory pitching five strong innings, surrendering only three hits. Carter recorded three strikeouts. Senior Crissy Autry pitched the final two innings to record the save. Autry also struck out three batters.
The Ladyjacks will back in action Sunday at the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Tournament.
