NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team is the hottest team in the Southland Conference and will place its three-game win streak on the line Tuesday night when they host Northwestern State. The game against the Lady Demons is scheduled to tip-off at 8:15 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Ladyjacks will be back in action Friday when they travel to San Marcos, Texas, to take on Texas State for the 2003-04 regular-season finale. The game against the Bobcats is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m., from the Strahan Coliseum.
SFA vs. the Lady Demons: The Ladyjacks are 40-14 (.741) all-time against Northwestern State. The Ladyjacks have won 16 of the last 22 meetings between the two schools, but the Ladyjacks dropped an 84-54 decision to the Lady Demons in Natchitoches, La., earlier this season. SFA recorded a 64-56 victory over Northwestern State the last time the two teams met in the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
SFA vs. the Bobcats: The Ladyjacks are 42-6 (.875) all-time against Texas State (formerly Southwest Texas). The Ladyjacks have won 10 of the last 12 meeting, but have lost the last two decisions. The Bobcats recorded a 74-67 decision victory over SFA the last time the two team played at Strahan Coliseum. Friday's game will be the first meeting between the two schools since Texas State defeated SFA, 64-56 in the SLC tournament last season.
Tradition of Winning: The SFA Ladyjack basketball program has been one of the most dominant in women's basketball history. The Ladyjacks are among the nation's all-time top 10 with 737 wins. The Ladyjacks are also among the all-time top 10 with a .741 winning percentage (737-258).
Tradition of Winning in the SLC: As dominant as SFA has been nationally, they have been just as dominant in the Southland Conference. The Ladyjacks are the conference's most dominant team, compiling a 257-31 (.892) all-time record. SFA has won 14 of a possible 16 SLC tournament titles and 13 regular-season titles. SFA has also recorded four undefeated seasons in league play and has had 36 players named All-SLC.
Riley vs. the SLC: SFA head basketball coach Lee Ann Riley is in her third season with the Ladyjacks. During that span, Riley has coached her troops to a 42-12 (.778) mark in Southland Conference games.
Home Sweet Home: The Ladyjacks are one of the all-time winningest teams at home, with an all-time record of 323-80 (.801). The Ladyjacks have now won 57 of their last 68 games in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Ladyjacks were 10-2 (.833) at home last season.
The SLC Scenario: The Ladyjacks are currently in a two-way tie for fourth place in the Southland Conference standings. If the Ladyjacks win their final two games of the regular season, SFA will be the No. 4 seed in the tournament. The Ladyjacks can move as high as the third seed, if SFA wins out and Texas-Arlington falls to Sam Houston State Wednesday night.
The Streak: The Ladyjacks have tied their season-high win streak with three consecutive victories. The Ladyjacks have also won six of their last nine contests.
Looking Ahead ... The Ladyjacks have locked up a spot in the SLC Tournament, which will be held on campus sites beginning Tuesday Mar. 9th. The championship game will tip-off Saturday at 1 p.m., and will be televised on FOX SportsNet.
