'Jacks Win 28th Straight At Home

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- SFA's Hank Rivers scored a career high 15 points Saturday night to help lead Stephen F. Austin (16-7, 7-5) to a 65-50 win over Nicholls State (6-18, 1-12) in the coliseum. The win was the 28th straight for SFA at home, extending the nation's third longest home court winning streak.
The 'Jacks could not shake the Colonels in the first half of play in spite of forcing 15 first half Nicholls State turnovers. SFA led by as many as six points in the first half but settled for a 25-22 lead at halftime. SFA shot only 37.5 percent (9-24) from the field in the first half of play and was 0-5 from behind the three point arc. Nicholls State shot just .333 (5-15) from the floor over the first 20 minutes, then totally lost the range in the opening minutes of the second half.
The Lumberjacks opened the second half on a 20-2 to build a 21-point lead at the 12:02 mark, then cruised to the win. The Colonels missed their first six attempts in the second half and turned it over another six times to help fuel the SFA run. SFA meanwhile hit eight of its first 11 second half shots in opening the lead.
Rivers finished the night with a career high 15 points and was joined in double figures by Antonio Burks with 10 points. Shaun led Nicholls State with 15 points. SFA outrebounded the Colonels 30-22 with Rodrigo Segantim leading the way with five boards, four of which were offensive rebounds. SFA outscored the Colonels 15-3 on second chance points.
The 'Jacks move into a six way tie for second place in the loss column with the win. SFA returns to action Wednesday night at Lamar, game time is 7:00 p.m.
