
Williams Among Finalists For Wooden Trophy

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Michael Williams, a senior quarterback on the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team has been named as one of 12 national finalists for the John Wooden Trophy, presented annually by Athletes For A Better World.
The award is presented each year to two distinguished athletes - one intercollegiate and one professional - that best display character, teamwork and citizenship, the attributes the group deems central to transforming individuals, sport and society. The award establishes the recipients as athletes of excellence both on and off the field, role models both as performers and persons, the most important and distinctive honor and athlete can achieve.
Williams earned all-conference honors last season as the `Jacks starting quarterback over the final six games of the season and has started all nine games so far in 2004. He has served as president of the SFA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and has taken an active role in community projects involving student-athletes from the university.
The John Wooden Trophy will be presented Jan. 10 in Los Angeles, Calif. TM
