The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team returns to Nacogdoches this weekend looking to get back in the win column after suffering its first league loss of the year. The Ladyjacks will host Louisiana-Monroe Friday night at 7 p.m. SFA will be back on the field Sunday afternoon to face Northwestern State in a 2 p.m., game. Both contests will be played at the SFA Intramural Complex. The Ladyjacks enter Friday night's game with an 8-4-1 (.654) overall record and tied for tops in the SLC with a 6-1-0 (.857) record.
Still Rollin' Along: Despite the overtime loss at Texas State, the Ladyjacks have been playing great soccer. SFA has won seven of their last eight games, outscoring their opponents, 33-8, during that stretch and recording four shutouts.
The Great Wall of Nacogdoches: SFA junior goalkeeper Natascia Michalezki is putting together another solid season for the ladies in purple and white. Michalezki has recorded 91 saves this season, which is the fifth-best single-season mark in school history. Michalezki needs only 24 more saves to move up to third on the school's all-time single-season list, which would give her the top three single-season marks in school history. Michalezki is currently the school's all-time saves leader (391), single-season saves leader (154) and single-game saves leader (24).
Lighting Up the Nets: Sophomore Shahin Pabani and seniors Sophia Pantazis and Christie Mestayer have made their presence felt offensively this season. Pabani is currently tops in the SLC in goals per game (0.77) and points per game (1.77). Pabani's 10 goals places her fourth on the school's single-season top-10 list. Pantazis is currently fifth on that list with nine goals, while Mestayer is tied for seventh.
Up Next ... SFA hits the road for their final road trip of the regular season when they travel to Thibodaux, La., Friday Oct. 22, to face Nicholls State. The game against the Lady Colonels will begin at 4 p.m. SFA will be back in action two days later, when they go to Hammond, La., to take on Southeastern Louisiana. The game against SLU is slated to get underway at 2 p.m.
