NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team opened up the second day of the SFA Invitational with a dominant performance, blanking Texas-Pan American, 3-0 (30-21, 30-20, 30-28). The Ladyjacks improved to 3-3 with the victory.
The Ladyjacks dominated from the start as junior Brittany Burton (Livingston, Texas) led the team in kills for a second consecutive match. She finished with 14 and only three attack errors (.393 attack percentage). But it was the Ladyjacks defense that took control in the second game as SFA recorded eight of its 19 blocks in that game. Seven different Ladyjacks finished the match with a block, led by sophomore Amelia Mayeaux's (League City, Texas) six. Mayeaux also added eight kills and three digs.
UTPA had its chances in game two as it led most of the way, but the Lady Broncs were hurt by their serving as they finished the match with 15 service errors.
Junior Joanna Benestante (Houston, Texas) was a spark off the bench in the third game, recording three kills, five digs and a block.
SFA returns to action Saturday night when they face Tulsa. The match will decide the SFA Invitational champion. It is set to begin at 7 p.m. from the William R. Johnson Coliseum. Admission is free to students.
