Ladyjacks Open with Successful Scrimmage

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team kicked off the 2003 season Thursday night at the William R. Johnson Coliseum with a purple and white scrimmage. The white defeated the purple, 2-0.
Junior co-captain Brittany Burton (Livingston, Texas) set the tone for the white recording a match-high nine kills and seven blocks. Classmate, and fellow co-captain, Joanna Benestante (Houston, Texas) also had a solid night as she recorded six kills with only one error (.500 attack percentage).
Sophomores Lauren Stevens (Schertz, Texas) and Amelia Mayeaux (League City, Texas) led the purple squad. Stevens recorded eight kills with only two errors (.375 attack percentage), while Mayeaux added eight kills and three total blocks.
One of the biggest surprises of the night was freshman libero Stephanie Figgers (Katy, Texas). She displayed solid ball control in the victories and finished the night with three digs.
The Ladyjacks open the 2003 regular season Friday Aug. 29th, when they travel to El Paso, Texas to take on UTEP. The match is slated to get underway at 11 a.m.
