NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team completes its first day of two practices a day Monday with what head coach Mike Santiago described as a really good practice Monday morning, and an evening practice under the lights Monday night.
"I was very pleased with the morning practice. There were guys bouncing around and flying around even late in practice, which I was happy to see. We had a number of nice hits in the team period and we looked sharp in the morning workout," said Santiago. "It was hot Monday morning and we came through the heat very well. That's a testament to how much work these guys did over the summer and the condition they are in when they arrived at camp."
The Lumberjacks will work out once Tuesday afternoon starting at 2:30 p.m. on the grass practice fields behind the fieldhouse and will close out the final portion of the practice with a 50-play scrimmage. All practices are open to the public. The Tuesday afternoon practice will be the first chance for fans to see the team in game type situations.
Following practice Tuesday, the Lumberjacks will return for media activities in the stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m. Media Day is also open to the public and fans are encouraged to bring their cameras and take pictures and get autographs with their favorite Lumberjack players. All players and coaches will be available during the Media Day activities.
David Smoak of KTBB radio in Tyler will broadcast his sports talk show from the SFA campus Tuesday afternoon and will talk with members of the team and coaching staff throughout the afternoon. Smoak's SportsTalk show is an award winning sports talk show heard throughout East Texas.
SFA opens the season Sept. 6 in Monroe, La. against UL-Monroe.
