NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team released its schedule for the upcoming 2003-04 season Saturday afternoon announced head coach Lee Ann Riley. The Ladyjacks will once again face one of the nation's toughest non-conference schedules as the upcoming slate is highlighted by contests against five 2002-03 NCAA tournament participants. The Ladyjacks will play teams representing the Atlantic Coast, Big 12, Mountain West, Southeastern and Western Athletic Conferences.
The Ladyjacks tip-off the 2003-04 season with back-to-back contests at home beginning with a Nov. 21st showdown against Louisiana Tech. SFA will follow that up three nights later with a game against Colorado State.
SFA will be in Durham, N.C., Nov. 29-30, to take on 2002-03 NCAA Final Four participant Duke. The Duke Women's Basketball Classic will also play host to Auburn and Creighton. SFA will remain on the road for a Dec. 5th showdown against in-state rival Rice in the Gene Hackerman/Rice Invitational. The Ladyjacks will stay in Houston to face either Baylor or Eastern Kentucky on Dec. 6th.
Riley will bring her troops home for a 2 p.m. game against Big 12 opponent Oklahoma on Dec. 13th. The Ladyjacks will travel to Jonesboro, Ark., for a Dec. 21st date against Arkansas State and then turn right around and return to the William R. Johnson Coliseum to take on Southeastern Conference opponent Arkansas (Dec. 28th). The Ladyjacks will be spending New Year's Eve in Tulsa, Okla., where they will face the Golden Hurricanes.
The Ladyjacks will have one non-conference game remaining that will come in the middle of the SLC schedule. SFA will play host to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Feb. 10th.
SFA opens its conference schedule on Jan. 8th, when they travel to Natchitoches, La., to take on Northwestern State.
