NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team went through its first workout of the 2003 fall camp Wednesday afternoon with 90 players taking part. Head coach Mike Santiago said he was pleased with the way the first practice went.
"I was very pleased with the way things went today. We came in great shape and I thought that for the first practice, things went very well. Our biggest problem today was that we have more veterans now and are so far ahead of where we've been, we've got to get the newcomers caught up," said Santiago.
Ninety players went through the two hour workout in shorts and helmets and will go through another two hour workout Thursday afternoon. SFA will practice in pads for the first time Sunday in preparation for its Sept. 6 opener at the University of Louisiana-Monroe.
"It was great to see us so sharp today. It was like we hadn't missed a beat since we went through spring ball," added Santiago.
