
SFA Enters 2003 Ranked Among Nation's Top 25

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- SFA is one of four Southland Conference football teams which will open the season ranked in The Sports Network's preseason top 25 poll. SFA will open the season as the nation's 24th ranked I-AA program in the poll of Sports Information Directors and media members across the nation.
McNeese State, the 2002 SLC champion, and a preseason favorite to repeat as conference champs opens the year as the country's top ranked team, receiving 25 of a possible 80 first place votes in the preseason poll released today. Northwestern State is ranked 22nd, Nicholls State is 23rd and SFA is 24th in the season opening poll.
The 'Jacks are picked to finish second in the SLC behind McNeese State in a preseason poll of conference head coaches and SID's. SFA opens the season Sept. 6 on the road against Division I-A UL-Monroe. The game against the Indians marks the fourth Division I-A opponent the Lumberjacks have played in the last five years.
SFA will open the home portion of its schedule Sept. 18, a Thursday night, with a Fox Sports Southwest televised game against Northern Iowa.
