SFA Track & Field Wraps Up LSU Twilight

BATON ROUGE, La. - The Stephen F. Austin men and women's track and field team competed at the LSU Twilight meet Saturday in Baton Rouge. The meet was the team's last tune-up before the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships May 16th through the 18th in San Marcos, Texas.
Sophomore Ana Rodriguez brought home the individual title and set a new SFA record in the women's 5,000 meters with her time of 17:24.90, winning the race almost a full minute before her closest competitor. On the men's side, freshman Julian Acuna won the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:42.35. Acuna finished just ahead of teammates Marc Farris (15:34.47) who finished third, Amlesom Teklai (15:44.73) who finished fourth and Rodney Joseph who crossed the line fifth with his time of 15:52.46.
Sophomore Jessica Partin set a school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with her time of 11:44.34. Partin's time was good enough for a third-place overall finish. Junior Vicky Jannise finished fourth in the steeplechase with her time of 12:04.06. Junior Nathan Flores won the 3,000-meter steeplechase and qualified for the NCAA Regional meet with his time of 9:05.79. Flores' time was good enough for second place.
Junior Justin Meier finished second in the 1,500-meter run with his time of 3:52.29.
Sophomore Jocelyn Stevens finished second in the 400-meter hurdles with her regional qualifying time of 1:00.26. She finished just ahead of teammate Bonnie McHan who finished fourth with a time of 1:01.93.
Freshman Kasie Query finished second in the pole vault clearing a height of 11-3.75. Query won the tiebreaker over teammate Jennifer Schreiner who also cleared a height of 11-3.75. Query also competed in the javelin throw and finished third with a mark of 151-4.00.
The SFA track and field team returns to action Friday May 16th through Sunday May 19th at the SLC Outdoor Championships in San Marcos, Texas.
