'Jacks Add Two Recruits

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Stephen F. Austin State University head men's basketball coach Danny Kaspar has announced the addition of two student-athletes to his program with the recent signing of Patrick Hannaway, of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Henry Rivers, Jr. of Jersey City, N.J., to national letters of intent to play basketball and continue their education at the university next fall.
Hannaway, a 6-5, 185-pound forward from Colorado Springs, Colo., is a small forward and was one of the top high school players in the state of Colorado. A three-time All-City and All-Conference selection, Hannaway was also voted "Mr. Basketball" in the state of Colorado in 2003. He was also named the Gatorade Circle of Champions Player of the Year in 2003, and was also the Gazette Newspaper Male Athlete of the Year as a senior.
A two-time all-state selection, Hannaway helped Doherty High School to three straight playoff appearances, including a final four berth in the Colorado high school playoffs in 2003. He averaged 21.3 points per game, while pulling down 5.8 rebounds per game and adding 2.7 steals per contest. He was a team captain for coach Leroy Valdez at Doherty in both his junior and senior seasons.
Rivers, a junior college transfer from Southeast Community College in Beatrice, Nebraska, will help the 'Jacks on the boards in 2003-2004. The 6-8, 225 pound post player averaged 13.2 points and 10.3 rebounds per game last season for coach Dan Johnson at Southeast Community College. Rivers also earned all-conference honors in the Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference as a freshman and was all-conference, all-region and a member of the Region 9 All-Tournament Team as a sophomore.
He was a Street & Smith's Preseason Top 25 JC Super Sophomore heading into his sophomore season.
SFA returns seven letterwinners from last year's 21-8 team.
