
SFA Track and Field Goes to Lamar

BEAUMONT, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men and women's track and field teams will be in Beaumont, Texas Saturday to compete at the Ty Terrell Relays, while the SFA distance squads will travel to Houston, Texas Friday and Saturday for the Rice University Bayou Classic. The Ty Terrell Relays will begin Saturday at 10 a.m. with the men's discus. The track events are slated to get underway at noon with the men and women's 4X100-meter relay. The distance events at the Bayou Classic will begin at 7:25 p.m., with the men's 1,500-meter relay. The Ty Terrell Relays will have a nine-team field consisting of meet-host Lamar, Louisiana-Lafayette, Nicholls State, New Orleans, Northwestern State, Southern University, Wiley College and Xavier.
AOW: Sophomore Ana Rodriguez was named SLC Athlete of the Week for her school-record time of 17:14.67 in the 5,000 meters. She broke the old school record by more than 21 seconds.
Ladyjacks in the League: Sophomore Jocelyn Stevens is second in the league in 100-meter hurdles with her time of 14.57. She is also tops in the league in the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.32) and is third in the high jump (5-5.00). Senior Katie Lonergan is second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.51. Sophomore Jessica Partin has posted the league's top mark in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with her school record time of 11:48.56. Sophomore Ana Rodriguez is currently tops in the league in the 5,000 meters with her school-record time of 17:14.67. Sophomore Teresa Murray is currently fourth in the Southland Conference with mark of 5-3.00 in the high jump. Freshman Kasie Query has posted the second-best mark in the pole vault, clearing a height of 11-0.25. She is also second in the league with her school record toss of 147-02 in the javelin. Junior Jennifer Schreiner is fourth in the SLC with her mark of 10-6.25 in the pole vault. Senior Jessica Claiborne is currently fifth in the long jump (18-6.50) and fourth in the triple jump (38-5.50). Sophomore Shametra Boykins is fifth in the triple jump at 38-0.75. Senior Blake Gordon is currently second in the shot put (44-9.75) and the discus (141-07). Freshman Sarah Emerson is fourth in the javelin with her throw of 140-02. Freshman Colleen Lonergan is fourth in the discus with her toss of 135-02. SFA owns the top three spots in the league in the heptathlon, led by senior Tracy Schupp (4,709 points). Schupp is followed by sophomore Lindsey Bryson with 4674 points. Freshman Crystal Chang is currently third in the league with 4195 points.
Lumberjacks in the League: Freshman Chance Edwards is third in the league with his time of 3:59.86 in the 1,500 meters. Junior Mike Thompson has the league's best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:22.36). Juniors Justin Meier (14:48.38) and Nathan Flores (14:57.19) sit atop the league in the 5,000 meters. Freshman Julian Acuna is third in the league in the 5,000 meters with his time of 15:04.02. Freshman Marc Farris is fifth in the league with a time of 15:22.56. Junior DeVaughn Rettig is fifth in the league with a mark of 22-11.00 in the long jump. Rettig is third in the triple jump with a mark of 47-1.75. Sophomore Scott Reid is fifth in the SLC with his mark of 143-02 in the discus.
Leaving Their Mark: A couple of Ladyjack freshmen have had solid starts for SFA in the javelin. Both Kasie Query and Sarah Emerson recorded NCAA Regional qualifying marks at the Texas A&M Multis/Relays meet. Query recorded a mark of 147-02 while Emerson threw the javelin 140-02.
Up Next... The SFA track and field teams will open the month of April at the Texas Relays. The meet is a five-day event that will begin Tuesday April 1st and run through Saturday April 5th.
