NACOGDOCHES - March Madness is upon us. The Stephen F. Austin men and women's basketball teams are preparing for the Southland Conference Championships presented by AudioVox. The Lumberjacks finished the season with a 20-7 (.741) overall record and second in the SLC with a 16-4 (.800) league record. The Ladyjacks wrapped the 2002-03 regular season by going 15-12 (.556) overall and earned the No.-2 seed with a 15-5 (.750) conference mark.
Due to their second-place finishes in the SLC, both teams receive a first-round bye in the conference tournament. The Lumberjacks will host the highest-remaining seed Wednesday at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Ladyjacks will host the highest remaining seed in semifinals of their tournament Thursday at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. The winners of the tournament will receive the Southland Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
The Lumberjacks are coming off their first 20-win season since the 1986-87 season when SFA went 22-8 (.733) and advance to the National Invitational Tournament. The Ladyjacks are going in search of their 16th consecutive NCAA tournament appearance and their 18th overall.
