A Look at Ladyjack Senior Amy Collins

NACOGDOCHES - Amy Collins is a native of San Antonio, Texas and plays the post position for the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team. She is one of three seniors on a youthful Ladyjacks squad. Even though the 2002-03 Ladyjack team is young, Collins is still excited about the prospects for the season.
"Although I've been fortunate to play in three NCAA tournaments, it is a goal of mine to get back to the tournament and advance further into the tournament," said Collins. "Most of this year's team is freshmen, but I still believe that we will fight for the conference title."
Collins is making a name for herself at SFA by way of the blocked shot. Collins currently leads the Southland Conference, and is among the nation's top 10, with her 3.2 blocks per game. She became only the fifth Ladyjack to record 100 career blocks earlier this season and she holds the SFA record for blocks in a game (7) and a season (57). Collins' 141 career blocks places her third all-time at SFA and she is on pace to become the school's all-time shot block leader.
Regardless what happens the rest of the season, Collins' career has had many memorable moments.
"One of my most memorable moments was playing in the NCAA tournament my freshman year. We defeated Xavier in the first round of the tournament and that was a lot of fun. Another moment was being named the 2002 Southland Conference Tournament MVP. It was also an honor playing against the US Olympic team in 2000. It was real exciting to play against the people that I wanted to be like growing up. That was an experience of a lifetime."
SFA head coach Lee Ann Riley joined the Ladyjack program as the head coach in March of 2001. Collins credits Riley for helping her improve her game.
"Coach Riley helped everyone take their game to the level," said Collins. "She has helped me be a more confident player."
Collins would like to see her playing career continue even after her career in the Ladyjack purple and white is done.
"The thought of playing professional is at the back of my mind," said Collins. "But right now I'm focused on this team and trying to win another Southland Conference Championship."
