Ladyjacks Receive Academic Honors

PLANO, Texas - Junior Joanna Benestante and sophomores Amelia Mayeaux and Lauren Stevens were named 2003 Academic All-Southland Conference announced league officials Thursday afternoon. Benestante earned second-team honors while Mayeaux and Stevens were named to the third team.
Benestante was a team co-captain in 2003 finishing third on the team with 250 digs. Benestante moved into a starting role towards the latter part of the season and helped lead the Ladyjacks to 13 wins in their final 14 matches to close out the regular season. It is the second-straight season that Benestante has been named to the Academic All-SLC second team.
Mayeaux was one of only three Ladyjacks to start every match in 2003. Mayeaux finished second on the team in points, kills, block solos and total blocks while leading the team with 111 block assists.
Stevens had a solid sophomore season finishing third on the team with 317 total kills and second on the team averaging 2.76 kills per game. Stevens recorded double-figure kills in 19 of the teams 32 matches, including a career-high 19 kills on two separate occasions.
