Rivers Leads SFA With 14 In Lumberjack Win

The Lumberjacks shook off a sluggish start and a poor shooting first half in moving to 5-2 on the year with a 68-50 win over Grambling State (2-5) Saturday afternoon in the coliseum. The win is the 17th straight for the 'Jacks at home, a new coliseum record.
SFA shot only .267 (8-30) in the first half of play, but still lead 23-21 at the half thanks to tenacious defense that forced 14 Grambling State first half turnovers. Marcus Clark went the length of the floor with under five seconds remaining in the half to break a 21-21 tie and give the 'Jacks the halftime lead.
Grambling also improved its shooting percentage in the second half and ended up shooting .419 (18-43) fro the game, but continued to turn the ball over, committing 23 turnovers on the night. The Tigers held one lead in the opening minutes of the second half, taking a 27-25 lead before Tim Simon hit a lay-up and drew a foul. Simon completed the three point play and SFA never relinquished the lead.
Hank Rivers led the Lumberjacks in scoring with 14 points, 10 coming in the second half of play. Taylor Moore also added 12 and Antonio Burks added 10 points for SFA. It marked the first time this year Burks has not led the team in scoring. Moore led the 'Jacks with seven rebounds. SFA outrebounded Grambling State 35-34 for the night, and outscored the Tigers 38-16 in points in the paint.
The 'Jacks take the next week off before hosting Oklahoma Panhandle State next Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. in the coliseum.
