
Ladyjacks Cruise Past Sam Houston

NACOGDOCHES - Three Ladyjacks recorded double-figure kills and SFA hit .291 as a team as the SFA rolled past Sam Houston State, 3-1 (30-20, 30-23, 27-30, 30-12). The Ladyjacks are now 9-11 overall and 5-4 in Southland Conference action.
SFA came roaring out of the gates winning the first two games with some inspired offense. The Ladyjacks recorded a .329 hitting percentage heading into the intermission. SFA was led by junior Brittany Burton and sophomore Lauren Stevens who hit over .400 in the match. Burton finished the night with a team-high 15 kills (.419 attack percentage) and five blocks, while Stevens recorded 14 kills (.417 attack percentage) and two blocks.
The Bearkats tried to steal some of the momentum when the came from behind to win game three, 30-27. SHSU was led by Chrissy Engle's 13 kills. But it wasn't enough as SFA jumped out to a big game four lead and never looked back.
Sophomore Amelia Mayeaux added 13 kills in a victorious effort. Senior Melissa Bullion led all players with her 47 assists.
The Ladyjacks return to action Tuesday to face Texas-Arlington. The game against the Mavericks is slated begin at 7 p.m. from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
