Streak Moves To Nine Straight

The Lumberjacks (10-3, 6-0) extended their winning streak to nine straight and remained perfect in Southland Conference play Thursday night with a 74-62 win over Lamar before 2,132 fans in the coliseum.
B. J. Banks led SFA with 14 points and was one of four Lumberjacks to end the night in double figures. Percy Green added 13, Marcus Clark tossed in 12 off the bench, and Stevin Ozier posted his second double-double fo the year with an 11-point, 11-rebound effort.
SFA jumped in front early, never trailing, and built a 10-point lead at 21-11 with 11:14 remaining in the first half of play. Lamar trimmed the lead back to seven points at 26-19 with 6:05 to go in the first half, but never got any closer as the 'Jacks used relentless pressure and accurate shooting to lead 45-26 at the half.
The 'Jacks shot .516 (16-31) in the first half of play and commited only five first half turnovers while forcing 12 Lamar mistakes. SFA turned those mistakes into 16 points and outrebounded the Cardinals, the SLC's best rebounding team, 18-12 in the opening half of play. Lamar ended the night with 18 turnovers to SFA's 11.
Ozier pulled down seven first half rebounds, including four offensive boards to pace the SFA attack in the first half of play. He ignited the crowd with a thundering dunk midway through the second half to build the SFA lead back to 19 points.
SFA returns to action Saturday afternoon at 4:00 when they host Sam Houston in the coliseum. Sam Houston is one game behind the Lumberjacks in the conference standings and is the preseason favorite to win the regular season title.
