NACOGDOCHES -
The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team returns to the William R. Johnson Coliseum this week after sweeping its recent road trip through southern Louisiana. The Ladyjacks place their five-game win streak on the line Thursday against Lamar. The game against the Cardinals is slated to tipoff at 6 p.m. The Ladyjacks will follow that up 48 hours later when they match-up against Sam Houston State. The game against the Lady Bearkats is scheduled to begin at 6:15 p.m.
SFA vs. the Cardinals: The Ladyjacks are 33-2 (.943) all-time against Lamar. The Ladyjacks have won the last seven consecutive meetings and 29 of the last 30 between the two schools, with the only set back being a 76-62 decision during the 1998-99 season. The last time the two teams faced one another was an 80-46 decision in SFA's favor last season in Beaumont, Texas.
SFA vs. the Lady Bearkats: The Ladyjacks lead the all-time series with Sam Houston State, 51-2 (.962). SFA has won the last six consecutive games and 37 of the last 38 between the two teams with the lone SFA setback over that stretch coming during the 1998-99 season. The last time the two teams met, SFA defeated SHSU, 83-70, in Huntsville, Texas last season.
Tradition of Winning: The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball program has been one of the most dominant in women's basketball history. SFA is among the nation's all-time top 10 with 719 wins. The Ladyjacks are also among the all-time top 10 with a .754 winning percentage (719-235). Over the course of the past four seasons, SFA won 95 games. The 95 wins ranked 15th in the country during that stretch.
Tradition of Winning in the SLC: As dominant as the Ladyjacks have been nationally, they have been just as dominant in the Southland Conference. The Ladyjacks have been the conference's most dominant team, compiling a 239-20 (.923) all-time record. SFA has won 14 of a possible 15 SLC tournament titles and 13 regular-season championships. The Ladyjacks have also recorded four undefeated seasons in league play and have had 33 players named All-SLC.
Looking Ahead ... SFA returns to action Wednesday Jan. 22, when they travel to Texas-San Antonio to take on the Roadrunners. The game is slated to begin at 6 p.m., from the Convocation Center. SFA then returns home Saturday Jan. 25, for a showdown with Texas-Arlington. The game against the Mavericks is scheduled for a 4 p.m., tipoff at the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
