SFA Defense Dominates Second Half in Win Over Montana State

The Lumberjack defense dominated the second half of play in helping the 'Jacks to a 30-13 win over the 19th ranked Bobcats of Montana State before 7,341 fans on a rainy night in Homer Bryce Stadium, Saturday night.
SFA scored first to take a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter, but could not overcome some sloppy play early on as they went in at the half trailing 13-10. K Stephen Coker, a freshman from Lufkin, nailed a 50-yard field goal as time expired in the half to cut the score to 13-10 at the break.
The defense dominated play in the second half holding MSU to only 40 yards of offense in the second half while holding the Bobcats scoreless after halftime. The offense also picked up the pace with a 74-yard socring strike from Michael Williams to Tony Tompkins on the opening possession of the second half. The extra point from Coker gave the 'Jacks a 17-13 lead and they never looked back.
Coker added field goals of 49 and 26 yards later in the half while Cliff Edwards scored his second touchdown of the night with 10:08 to play to cap the scoring and give the 'Jacks the 30-13 win.
The win snapped an eight game losing streak to teams from the Big Sky Conference and evened the Lumberjacks record at 1-1.
SFA returns to home next week as they play host to Henderson State. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
