NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team dropped another close match in conference play Friday night, losing to McNeese State, 3-2 (30-25, 21-30, 29-31, 30-23, 15-13). The Ladyjacks are now 8-7 overall and 3-2 in the Southland Conference.
After dropping game one, the Ladyjacks looked to be in complete control of the match winning the next two games. Sophomore Joanna Benestante (Houston, Texas) led the SFA charge with 16 kills. The Cowgirls fought back to tie the match at 2, winning game four behind Angie Eppers' 29 kills and 24 digs. For the third-straight home match, SFA went to a fifth game. The Ladyjacks looked strong in that fifth game, leading early, behind senior Jennifer Wilson's (Friendswood, Texas) 11 kills, 19 digs and eight total blocks but McNeese State overcame 24 service errors to win the match, 3-2.
The Ladyjacks return to the court Saturday to take on defending league-champion Lamar. The match against the Cardinals is slated to begin at 4 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum. Admission is free to students
