NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team goes in search of its second consecutive Southland Conference victory with it takes on Northwestern State Friday at Homer Bryce Stadium. The Ladyjacks are 3-5 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
The Ladyjacks are coming off a league-opening 4-0 win over McNeese State Tuesday night. The Ladyjacks offensive came alive against McNeese State, attempting 24 shots and scoring a season-high four goals.
Sophomore Sarah Johnson (Fort Worth, Texas) and freshman Lauren Cummings (Kingwood, Texas) both netted two goals against the Cowgirls. Johnson leads the team with four goals and eight points on the season.
Freshman goalkeeper Natascia Michalezki (Calgary, Alberta) recorded the first shutout of her young career, going the distance and recording 13 saves. Michalezki now has 73 saves for the season, which places her in a two-way tie with Tara Holmes as the sixth-best single season in school history. The 73 saves also places Michalezki in a two-way tie with Holmes as having recorded the third-highest number of saves in SFA history. Former Ladyjack Elizabeth Evatt holds the SFA single-season (114) and career (343) mark for saves.
The Ladyjacks were able to exact a small amount of revenge on McNeese State with the 4-0 victory. The Cowgirls were the only conference school to beat SFA in Homer Bryce Stadium as well as the only league school to sweep the season-series against SFA last season.
The Ladyjacks will return to action Sunday afternoon to take on Louisiana-Monroe Sunday afternoon. The match is slated to begin at 2 p.m., from Homer Bryce Stadium. Admission is free to students.
