NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- SFA went through two workouts Tuesday prior to heading into Wednesday's first practice in full pads. The 'Jacks reported last Friday and worked over the weekend and the first two days of this week in helmets and shorts in preparations for the first full contact workout. Lumberjack head coach Mike Santiago said prior to Tuesday afternoon?s practice that he has been very pleased with practices to this point. "I have been very pleased with the way the team has gone about its business and come in to camp ready to get to work. The practices have been sharp and we've gotten a great deal accomplished in just the first few days of work," said Santiago. The 'Jacks will workout twice Wednesday in preparation for the first scrimmage of fall camp Thursday night under the lights at Homer Bryce Stadium. The scrimmage will get underway at approximately 7:00 p.m.
SELECTED CAMP HIGHLIGHTS
SANTIAGO ON .....
The biggest surprise of camp so far -
"Our conditioning. I came into Tuesday's practice expecting to see some fatigue and tired legs and we just didn't have that today. After the first three or four days of camp, you really expect to see sore bodies and tired legs on the practice field, and we just haven't had that. It's a credit to the way these guys worked over the summer and conditioning work that Dan Eason has developed for this program."
What he hopes to see when they put on the pads for the first time -
"We really need to see our tailbacks in some live contact situations. I think we are all anxious for full contact workouts to begin. It's a little early to tell how we stand in certain areas, but once we get a few days of full speed work in, we'll get a better idea of where we stand."
Thursday's scrimmage -
"We'll go into Thursday night's scrimmage really hoping to get a good look at some of the newer players. The returning starters will be in there for just a series or two, then we'll get them out and take a little longer look at the second unit and some of the newer players. The scrimmages later in camp will focus more on the starting units."
