STAMFORD, Conn. - Just four days after being named All-Southland Conference, senior Jessica Guild (Flower Mound, Texas) was named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-America Women's Basketball second team.
The Verizon Academic All-America teams are chosen by a vote of the 1,800 members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To be eligible for the honor, student-athletes must start or be a key reserve for the varsity squad and carry at least a 3.2 grade-point average.
Guild is currently second on the team in scoring at 11.2 points per game. She leads the team and is second in the Southland Conference with 3.5 steals per game. That mark also places her 14th in the nation. Early this season, Guild became the school's single-season steals leader. She currently stands at 98 for the season.
Guild and the Ladyjacks return to action Saturday against Northwestern State looking for the Southland Conference Tournament title and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
